Project Engineer - Water and Sewer The City of O'Fallon, MO is looking to hire a full-time Project Engineer for our Water and Sewer division. Is this the opportunity for you? Read on! ABOUT THE CITY OF O'FALLON AND ITS WATER AND WASTEWATER UTILITY The City of O'Fallon operates its own water and wastewater utilities. For potable water, the City has a 5 MGD water treatment plant with 4 water well sites that can add an additional flows for a total production capability of 9 MGD. The water distribution system includes 191 miles of water main and 5 storage tanks. For wastewater, the City has a 11.25 MGD wastewater treatment plant that discharges to the Mississippi River and 18 lift stations in the collection system with 250 miles of sewer main. The City is looking for an experienced and licensed professional engineer to function as Project Engineer to oversee collection system, distribution system and plant construction projects. The City is also ready to begin a capital improvement plan to replace and upgrade the City's utility systems, and this position will be part of a team working on these projects. In 2019, O'Fallon, Missouri celebrated receiving www.ChamberofCommerce.org's recognition as one of the state's "Best Places to Live in the State of Missouri." How we got there from our incorporation of 600 residents in 1912 is an extensive tale of entrepreneurship. By the mid-1990s, we began an aggressive program of citywide infrastructure improvements that supported phenomenal residential, retail, and manufacturing growth, resulting in a 25% increase in the number of available jobs. At the same time, a tourism industry based on our fascinating historic past began to flourish. In 2006, we were ranked as a "Best Places to Live" for the first time. Today, our borders have expanded to about 30 square miles and our population is nearly 90,000. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A SENIOR PLANT ENGINEER As the Project Engineer within the Public Works Department, you do an excellent job of managing construction projects for the City's water and wastewater plants. Whether it is establishing contracts, or collaborating with engineering, surveying and professional firms for the City's design projects, you thrive in the role of being an essential part of our management team. In addition to assisting plant operations by recommending process and procedural improvements , including assisting plant personnel by researching and making recommendations for the plants' equipment and chemical needs , you are responsible for supervising Project Managers, Construction Inspector's and/or other staff. You are essential to assisting in preparing the budget for the upcoming year. You continually strive to maintain good relationships with senior staff, contractors and the general public. Throughout the year you prepare bid documents and oversee bidding for the City's Water and Sewer construction projects , as well as applying for external funds for the design and construction of those projects . You take your responsibility to the citizens of O'Fallon seriously, acquiring easements and right-of-way for construction projects and recording required documents. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PROJECT ENGINEER Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with public works operations, including plan review, construction inspection, national water and sewer standards, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Agency Standards and stormwater operations. Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with the design, construction and management of roadways, bridges, creeks, sidewalks, trails, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains and facilities. Knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies. Knowledge of computers and job related software programs. Skill in planning and implementing public works programs and projects. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports. Skill in oral and written communication. Knowledge of GIS mapping programs and water and sewer modeling programs.
