Job Title: Court Clerk I Department: Justice Court Reports To: Court Clerk Supervisor Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Wage Scale: $14.74 - $21.40 per hour (Typical starting wage $14.74-$18.07 DOE) Close Date: April 28th, 2023 Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position Summary: This position is responsible for performing a variety of working-level duties related to the legal system of the City including documenting and tracking court cases and meeting the demands of the City's Justice Court. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Type, transcribe, compile, and file minutes and other court-related documents, Ensure that documents are accurate and correct, Prepare correspondence as directed by the Justice Court Judge, Receive fines, forfeitures and fees related to the justice court and keep daily dockets of monies received, Verify that payments are current; determine if Small Claims should be filed on delinquent payment or if garnishments should be issued, Assist in preparing court calendar and status, Complete monthly and quarterly reports for the Court System, Respond to telephone and public inquiry in regard to judicial procedures, court appearances, trial dates, adjournments, outstanding warrants, summonses, subpoenas, witness fees and payment of fines, Search files, contact witnesses, attorneys and litigants in order to obtain information for the court, Maintain a productive working environment which includes, but is not limited to, a spirit of cooperation with co-workers, peers and the public, Perform other duties as assigned by Court Clerk Supervisor. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process; Administrative and clerical procedures, systems such as Microsoft Word, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms and other office procedures. Skilled in office management duties; composing correspondence; handling multiple projects with interruptions; prioritizing and organizing workload to meet deadlines. Ability to enter, transcribe, record, store and maintain information in written or electronic form; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, as well as sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
