Come join HOME Youth Services! The Lead Youth Navigator provides service navigation and case management to youth to help them achieve their goals while ensuring a safe space at HOME. The Lead Youth Navigator helps youth learn life skills, build positive relationships and navigate public and social services available in the community. This position serves as a member of the program leadership team to help ensure the program is achieving maximum desired outcomes and serves as a peer mentor and trainer for other staff. There are multiple openings for this position. Candidates must submit their application by 05/04/23 in order to be considered for first round interviews. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Four or more years of work or volunteering experience in fast-paced customer service, healthcare, education, social or community services or related public-facing sectors; at least one year of prior leadership training or experience preferred. College course work in social sciences or related human services preferred but not required. Preference will be given to candidates with work or volunteer experience working with special needs population and/or experience working with youth or high risk youth 11-18 years of age. Equivalent combinations of education, various experience and training may be accepted. Prior training experience in the following areas preferred but not required: CRP/First Aid, Food Handler's, Mandatory Reporting, Privacy Laws, Trauma Informed Care, Suicide Intervention, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to build and maintain healthy boundaries and relationships with youth and community partners. Desirable skillsets include: de-escalation, motivational, role-modeling, active-listening, flexibility and adaptive to changing circumstances, light cooking, housekeeping and close monitoring and supervision of youth. Proficiencies in the use of Microsoft Office, such as Word and Outlook. Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written form; read and interpret policies and instructions. Ability to utilize video conferencing, navigating and communicating on social media, and general technology skills. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATION Driver qualification status required for this position. Valid driver license and insured vehicle available for use on the job with satisfactory drive record for the past 5 years. Candidate must pass pre-employment Oregon Department of Human Services criminal background check. This position is subject to MWVCAA's Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Assists youth in developing and achieving their goals with a focus on health, education, employment and housing. Advocates for and obtains services for youth and their families. Creates and maintains positive relationships with youth and their families with ethical boundaries. Conducts assessments with youth to determine strengths, needs, service eligibility, etc. Maintains and updates all necessary databases for tracking youth progress, program objectives and outcomes, and contractual and licensing requirements. Partners with program management to evaluate, improve and implement programs, policies and procedures. Partners with program management to coordinate and implement events, services, and on-site training. YOUTH PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION Answers the phone: direct calls or take messages appropriately (land line, cell phone and social media). Takes crisis calls: conduct crisis intervention over the phone and in-person (land line, cell phone and social media). Completes intake, call logs, and exit paperwork in an accurate and professional manner. OTHER DUTIES Effectively presents information and responds to questions from clients, customers, partners, and the general public. Demonstrates experience and understanding in working with the at-risk, homeless, runway and street youth population as well as community partners and social service agencies. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no staff supervisory responsibilities but is responsible for supervising youth according to program policy, procedure and applicable oversight standards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Required to frequently reach; required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, and crouch. Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity for handling office equipment, preparing food/cooking, checking for hidden items in beds, backpacks, facilities and persons. Frequent driving in all weather conditions. WORK ENVIRONMENT Close quarters, often with a population experiencing homelessness, with additional barriers such as mental illness and substance use. Frequent noise and distractions in work spaces. May work in kitchen/laundry with appliances and restroom spaces. Indoor and outdoor work environment. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed and scheduled by supervisor. Utilizes virtual video conference platforms and social media platforms as a means to communicate and work collaboratively. Potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other communicable conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face coverings may be required. *COVID-19 Alert: This position includes performing essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic and potential exposure to others who may be infected with the virus.
