Description:

Position Summary: Under limited supervision, performs assessment, crisis intervention, mental health therapy, substance abuse therapy, case management, referrals to contract agencies and helps support other tribal departments. The work is normally reviewed upon completion to ensure compliance with general organization/department goals, policies and procedures. Major work activities are covered by procedures or guidelines permitting flexibility in selecting methods to utilize and procedures to follow, determination of work priorities, and the planning and coordination of projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides client services for crisis and emergencies; assesses mental and/or addictive disorders, evaluates and performs client therapeutic care. Provides complex and multiple psychotherapeutic techniques in treating groups, individuals, families and children. Assures appropriate placement and services regarding client care. Provides for after hour crisis on-call, as needed. Communicates with other tribal programs and outside entities to promote the health, welfare, understanding, and respect for members of the Tohono O'odham Nation and other eligible Native Americans. Recommends placements of clients in residential treatment and extension of services beyond contracted date. Recommends appropriate placements of clients in outside contracted agencies including needed services, length of stay, extensions of stay, and aftercare placement. Prepares forms, documentations, and updates data base for record keeping. Communicates to outside entities regarding programs, client care, follow-up, and needed services. Facilitates inpatient placement for clients at contracted facilities. Works closely with other branches and employees of the Tohono O'odham Nation. Attends meetings with internal and outside entities regarding client care, program information and services. Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements. Knowledge of the economic, educational, and health and social problems of Native Americans. Knowledge of evidence based therapeutic procedures and treatments. Knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual and the Code of Ethics for Behavioral Health Providers. Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) related rules and regulations. Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers. Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs. Skill in independent decision making, independent and critical thinking, and self-motivation. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to travel long periods of time throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation. Ability to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity to community issues and concerns Ability to provide leadership and teambuilding skills and enthusiasm. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain privileged confidential information. Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines. Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules, including nights, holidays and weekends. Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation. Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field and one year work experience in a behavioral health related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements: Must possess certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors or from the Association of Social Work Board. Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire. Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record. May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years). If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles. Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
