ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Public Works Department Hiring Range: $22.43 to $29.29 Pay Grade: 110 Full Pay Range: $ 22.43 to $35.15 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Deadline to Apply: 05/04/2023 Position Summary: The City of Prescott Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and collaborative professional for the City's Utilities Division, in the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. Under general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, the ideal candidate will possess the necessary skills to evaluate and control an activated sludge process, while demonstrating a strong commitment to plant safety, practices and standards. Essential Duties : Ensure regulatory compliance by monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes and maintaining proper plant balance to include adjusting chemical feed rates, pumps and other plant equipment Complete multiple plant inspections, collect samples, and troubleshoot process and equipment Monitor pump operation, record pump readings and program timers Assist with the reclaimed water delivery system Assist laboratory technician and perform laboratory analysis Maintain plant appearance by cleaning and providing maintenance assistance Perform assigned duties for odor control, hygienic, and safety purposes Utilize various types of machinery and equipment including forklift, backhoe, lab instruments and general office equipment Monitor supervisory control, and data acquisition (SCADA) Utilize work orders to report problems related to operational equipment Perform scheduled and unscheduled work orders as assigned Maintain current operations records and files Provide on-call response on a rotating schedule, and perform related tasks as required to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and experience equivalent to two (2) years in operations and/or maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant. Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements: Must possess an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification or be able to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Must obtain Grade II within 18 months of obtaining Grade I and must obtain Grade III within 18 months of obtaining Grade II. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of biology and the effects of various changes to the biological process Knowledge of and ability to perform corrective and preventative maintenance on mechanical or electrical equipment Knowledge of mathematics, physics, and fluid flow to ensure accurate and efficient measurements and calculations Knowledge of related electrical and electronics principles and troubleshooting techniques Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating assigned equipment Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in times of adverse conditions Ability to analyze mathematical and physical data in an efficient and precise manner Ability to collect, test, and analyze water samples Ability to respond to emergencies on a rotating on call basis Ability to handle and work with hazardous chemicals and high voltage electricity in a safe and proper manner Ability to analyze chemical data and make logical and appropriate process adjustments based on the results Ability to use situational awareness in performance of assigned tasks Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other City employees, and the general public Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions completely Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology Ability to act with integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks Physical Demands And Working Conditions: Sufficient to safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicles as needed Must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and night, and in potentially adverse weather conditions Must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and capable of lifting 60 pounds frequently with a maximum of 100 pounds Ability sufficient to clearly concisely and effectively communicate in person, utilizing two-way radio systems and over the telephone Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include: Drug screening Motor vehicle records check Criminal background screening City of Prescott Contact Information 201 N.
