Birdie is a 10 month old dachshund/terrier mix. She is a sweet girl but will be shy at first. With patience and kindness, she will quickly warm up and before you know it, she will be following you around everywhere you go and helping where she can. She is great at entertaining herself when her foster mom is working from home. She is a chewer but has not shown any destructive behaviors provided she has her chew toys. She is doing great with potty training with the occasional accident when her foster mom goes into the office. She is sleeping through the night and will wake you up when she must go. If she is busy playing with her toys or her foster brother, she may forget to tell you so you just need to be diligent at reminding yourself to take her out. Birdie absolutely needs another dog in the house. She takes a lot of direction from her foster brother (golden retriever). They play well together. Her foster brother also relieves some of her anxiety when her foster mom must leave the house. As an older puppy she still likes to go for his ears but takes correction. She is also fascinated with his fluffy tail but is quickly diverted with a toy or treat. Birdie is intelligent and takes to training quickly. She is food motivated but it may take some time before she is willing to take one from your hand. Birdie would do best in a home without young kids as she still gets startled by new noises. She recovers quickly and shows interest in learning what those noises were, but too much can make her nervous. Birdie is not the biggest fan of being picked up as she would like to do things on her own. She would do best in a home where she is not left for long periods of time.
