This is anoriginal acrylic painting on thick, deckle-edged 100% rag paper by Americanartist Jerry De La Cruz (b 1948, Denver, CO). The work is a vertical formatwith the self-framed image being 23” high by 16” wide on paper that is 30” highby 22” wide. The work is professionally matted in white museum board with aframing size of 30” x 22”. The work is unframed (image of work framed forsizing perspective only). The subject is anabstracted view of a weather storm entitled “The Tempest.” Bold, darkbrushstrokes arc down from the top through textured white and pastel pinks.There are some little splotches of color along with the artist’s standard,symbolic, subtle, blue sphere. Across the bottom is a row of horizontalcalligraphic brushstrokes. Throughout the painting are subtleties and texturesevidencing a master draughtsman.The palette isprimarily white with peach fuzz pink, khaki green, blue, gray and blackhighlights. The work is aptly titled “The Tempest.” It is in pristine conditionand signed front lower left by the artist. De LaCruz has been a full-time professional fine artist since 1975. He was thesubject of a museum-wide retrospective at Denver's Museo de las Americas in2015-2016. He is listed among the three dozen most influential regional artistsof the twentieth century in a Denver Post survey of regional curators andproved the bestselling artist at the first International Latino Art Auction inPhoenix, AZ. The Denver Art Museum's first purchase of a living Hispanic's workfor its permanent collection was a De La Cruz. Years later, he was the onlyartist considered when that same museum wanted to commission a major,contemporary digital work commemorating the opening of its new LibeskindBuilding. De La Cruz was the recipient of back-to-back artist-in-residencygrants from Colorado in his early career and received as well their very lastpainting fellowship.
