The Housing and Residential Education (HRE) team at the University of Denver is committed to providing housing and support services for over 3,000 on-campus students. HRE strives to cultivate a community that not only encourages academic excellence and achievement but also nurtures personal growth and development, fosters a culture of respect and inclusivity, champions diversity, promotes community service, and fosters leadership among an engaged staff and student body.Position SummaryReporting directly to an Assistant Director, Community Director, or Associate Director for Residential Experiences, the Resident Director (RD) assumes leadership of their assigned areas, directly or indirectly supervising, training, and evaluating a team comprising 1-2 Graduate Resident Directors and 10-24 student staff. The RD is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of their residential community, implementation of HRE's Residential Education Model (REM), and nurturing a vibrant social environment that cultivates a sense of belonging, well-being, and safety among residents for their assigned residential community.This position is a fractional (0.93FTE), 11-month, live-in role. Housing accommodations are provided, including weeks where this position may not perform job responsibilities. Essential FunctionsLeadership & Supervision * Directly supervise, develop, and evaluate a team consisting of 1-2 Graduate Resident Directors and 10-24 student staff. * Create and facilitate training and developmental opportunities for graduate and undergraduate student staff. * Regularly provide formal and informal feedback regarding job performance. * Establish and maintain a culture of accountability and professional & personal growth. * Ensure that essential functions of their assigned residential community are maintained during periods of absence. * Facilitate regular meetings and one-on-ones with their residential community team and direct reports. * Serve as primary contact for residents, parents and families, and campus partners for their residential community. Community Development & Student Leadership * Implement HRE's Residential Education Model (REM) for their residential community, including integration of DU's 4D Student Experience. * In collaboration with key campus partners, facilitate co-curricular opportunities such as living and learning communities, affinity housing, or residential learning communities. * Plan and support community-wide events for their residential community. * Oversee advising of student leadership in assigned areas, such as Hall Council. * Regularly assess student experiences, engagement, and development for their residential community. Student Care & Conduct * Serve as an Administrator for the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities (SRR), investigating and adjudicating potential violations of the Honor Code or Community Standards. * Serve as a Student Support Advocate for the Office of Student Care & Outreach (SOS), providing support for students with wellness or well-being needs. * Regularly review incident reports and referrals for their residential community and coordinate additional responses as necessary. On-Call * Serve on Administrator-on-Call (AOC) rotation, supporting critical incident and crisis response for the DU community. * Serve as the primary point of contact for key campus partners and leadership in the event of a crisis or critical incident. * Provide consultation to student on-call staff. Departmental Initiatives & Special Projects * Support HRE's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, including leading DEI initiatives for their residential community.Serve on 1-2 departmental standing committees, with the opportunity to serve on divisional or university committees/workgroups. * Attend events and programs sponsored by HRE and/or SAIE that periodically occur outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends. Administrative * Manage a residential community budget by tracking expenditures, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring that their budget remains within its allocations. * Manage opening and closing for their residential communities including, but not limited to, resident move-in or move-out, check-in and check-out processes, and damage billing. * In collaboration with the Housing Program Manager, support front desk operations of assigned areas. * In collaboration with the Residential Operations team, support room switches and other administrative actions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Foster an atmosphere in the residence halls that supports the departmental, division and University mission * Advancing social justice through daily practices and policies as well as through programming initiatives and community building * Effective written and verbal communication skills * Understanding and appreciation for assessment * Strong communication and interpersonal competencies that demonstrate intelligence and integrity, and a commitment to exemplary customer service and sustainability * Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws * Knowledge of legal issues and risk management practices * Understanding regarding Housing operations, processes, front desk operations, and facilities Required Qualifications * Master's degree in student affairs/college personnel, business, or a related area of study. * Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience with an ability to work effectively with staff and students. * Commitment to equity and social justice. * Strong operational experience. * Evening office hours and occasional weekend commitments are expected. Preferred Qualifications * Graduate experience in housing and residence life, or a related field. * Experience supervising undergraduate staff. * Experience designing or implementing residential education or student leadership initiatives. Working Environment * Standard office environment. * Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high. * Noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities * Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time. * Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. Work ScheduleThis position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-4:30pm with some weekends, evenings, and holidays. (Schedules vary by department and position.)In accordance with the University's flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work.
