These specially-designed, steel, spring-type washers are installed on the INBOARD side of the upper leg attachment area on the crank arm post (1 each per leg).Many Max Trainers can have a clunk/knock sound which is due to the upper part of the leg moving laterally side-to-side and knocking against its mounting washer & crank post. BY-DESIGN there is a small gap in that area to allow the lateral side-to-side motion to prevent mechanical binding and machine damage. But Bowflex fixed this noise issue on newer shipments by adding these OEM-designed wave washers. The result is that the lateral side-to-side motion is still permitted, BUT it is cushioned to prevent the associated clunk/knock noise. WARNING - Many online videos and blogs INCORRECTLY state to add a flat steel or plastic washer to fill the gap in the upper leg location to fix the clunk/knock noise. The GAP IS INTENTIONAL AND BY-DESIGN and the gap MUST remain and so you do NOT ever want to add any other type of washer in that upper leg location except for these specially designed wave washers!
