Simply Amazing!! This antique trunk has so many positive attributes, unsure where to start! According to the interior label it was Manufactured by Excelsior Trunk Factory in Illinois which is not to be confused with THE EXCELSIOR TRUNK WORKS. It features gorgeous oak slats PLUS an alligator embossed tin metal body. In overall fabulous cosmetic condition, this trunk of over 125 years old is still very solid with only several issues. Hardware is all present and operating but no keys are included. Hardware is very ornate and shows little to no oxidation. Patent dates are visible. Silver pieces read "Mar 1 68" for 1868 and the black pieces read "Jul 9 72" for 1872. Unfortunately, but not uncommon, both leather side straps are missing as are any interior removable compartments. The original label is still intact on the interior lid in addition to the lovely pictures of a young children in period costume and a waterfall. The interior bottom has been lined with what appears to be shelving paper and no attempts have been made to remove. All 4 small casters are present on bottom.
