Requisition Title: SIA – CHM395H5S Chemical Synthesis Laboratory II (Lab Demonstrator) Position Type : Lab Demonstrator Course Title : CHM395H5S – Chemical Synthesis Laboratory II Course Description : The second in a sequence of two laboratory courses in synthetic chemistry that builds on the foundations established in CHM394H5. Students choose their own experiments in this course from offerings comprising the synthesis of organic, organometallic and inorganic compounds and in computational chemistry. Techniques such as working at low temperatures and in inert atmospheres (e. g. glove box) are introduced. Depending on the experiments actually chosen, a mixed organic unknown is separated and identified, organic rearrangements and the synthetic chemistry of elements from across the Periodic Table including main group, transition elements and lanthanides are explored. A highlight is an optional four week independent synthesis project in any area of synthetic chemistry adapting procedures from the published, including recent, research literature. Number of Positions (est) : 2 positions. Positions are dependent on actual course enrolment, and are not guaranteed. Course Enrolment (est): 12 students Hours of work (est) : 83.5 hours Class schedule : ttb. utoronto. ca/ Sessional dates of appointment : January 2024 – April 2024 Salary : CUPE3902 Unit 3 Salaries. The rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Qualifications : B. Sc. in Chemistry and/or Biochemistry. Sound knowledge in contents covered in the course required. Previous TA experience working with undergraduate students in Chemistry laboratory setting an asset to be able to demonstrate and deliver course content consistently within the Uof T's standards. Good communication skills are required as well. Description of Duties : Duties will include laboratory demonstration, marking laboratory reports, and/or quizzes/assignments.
