Up for auction is a really nice example of an original 1997 Land Rover Defender, Soft Top Convertible, with desirable automatic transmission and factory A/C. I am selling this vehicle on behalf of my father-in-law, a successful and well known Music Producer and Composer. You know his music, now here's a chance to own his vehicle. We are both avid collector car and truck people; with that being said, I am extremely familiar with NAS (North American Spec) Land Rovers. If you're not familiar with this term, NAS refers to legally imported Land Rovers into the USA. And as with this vehicle, the last year of importation. I've personally owned a 1995 NAS Hard Top Defender and have reviewed dozens of them. I live on Nantucket Island where in any given Summer, there are at least 50 Defenders on the road, in various states from the rusted out person who uses it daily on the beach, to the coach built East Coast Rover editions. This 1997 Defender is an excellent low mileage example of what I like to call a driver-survivor. The mileage has been suppressed by the previous 3 owners, as well as by my father-in-law, with an average of only 1700 driven miles per year. This vehicle has always been garage kept and well maintained. It has been a New York area vehicle its entire life. My father-in-law has been very happy with the ownership of this vehicle. It has an honest showing and vehicle history report. When I refer to honest showing I purposely look for vehicles that someone hasn't taken a $5 can of flat black spray paint and covered up or attempted to make a vehicle look newer by hiding its true identity. There are no rust issues, no mechanical issues, if something needed to be replaced it has been replaced. Any maintenance or replacements were consistent with the age of the vehicle. The odometer and gauge cluster were recently replaced, this was done 1600 miles ago - I wanted to disclose this. The CarFax has the documented mileage and we have the odometer reading prior to replacement, equalling the current mileage to date (39,536 miles). I can send the CarFax to interested parties.
