1941 Ford Deluxe ExteriorBathed in the deep end of the pool black paint, we see straightslab steel panels, rounded front quarters, and a small body bumpout connecting to a smaller fender skirted rear fender. Rounded isthe key word for the design of this car, but lets not forgetsmooth also. From the front bumper to the rear bumper, we notenothing else but curvaceous curves. These bumpers are hung tight tothe body and wrap around the bulbous front fenders like a childhugging their favorite stuffed toy. The tall knobbed front hoodfloats above the vertical V curved grille, and dual side grillesflanking it. While the original grille openings have been retained,they are now filled with a stainless wire mesh that is alsoreplicated in the small oval front bumper opening. The headlightsare frenched into the front fenders and some bullet style turnsignals under the lights are next to the grilles and have alsoreceived the frenching treatment. On the rear are simple circularflush mount taillights and flank the smoothed round trunk which isvery spacious and also restored in a lovely red and black leather.Rounded corner side windows and a rear oval window are noted to becut onto the body. The top has been slightly chopped and all tracesof brightwork have been removed from around the glass, thisincludes the split windshield which is now a simple swept back Vpane of glass. Chrome spotlights at the base of the A-pillarshighlight the low and flowing roof life and pair nicely with thethin trim spear that runs along the body belt line from mid hood tothe swoop down of the rear quarter panel. 15-inch red painted steelwheels are on all 4 corners along with tri-bar spinner style wheelcovers. These are wrapped by 20/70R15s in front, and larger255/70R15s on back all in wide whitewall format.InteriorA swing of the large shaved handle suicide hinged doors and we canshake hands with smooth red leather which highlights the black tuckand roll chrome trimmed leather insert. These panels present asnearly new with bright and shiny chrome for the handles and cranksand overstuffed black leather armrests are on to keep you feelinjust right. The sills mimic small running boards and are finishedin low pile red carpet. Looking towards the seats, we see low backbucket styling with smooth red overstuffed bolsters and clean tuckand roll pleated black leather inserts. More low pile red carpetingcovers the floors neatly and in the center is a glossy blackconsole with padded armrest topper, cup holders, the suspension airride control module and the 8-ball topped short arm shifter. Thisconsole flows up to meet the bottom center of the dash where a JVCAM/FM/CD player resides just below the control panel for theVintage Air heat and AC knobs. A tilt steering column in black istopped with a smaller version of the factory 2 spoke steering wheeland is fronting a black painted steel dash that has 2 largercentrally located red face Classic Instruments gauges and aresurrounded by smaller gauges of the same ilk. These chrome bezelbeauties safely reside under the black steel eyebrow of the dash.Moving in front of the passenger we see more black steelhighlighted by a silver facing at the top of the dash. A 2 plus 2bench seat arrangement is in the rear and matches the 2 frontbuckets just perfectly. A black felted padded headliner is floatingabove and looking near perfect.DrivetrainA lift of the big bulbous hood, and we have engine bling blingblinding us. Its now a stout 350ci V8 bored over to create aconsignor stated 357 cubic inches of small block Chevy power. Thishas beautifully polished aluminum valve coverings, and 3 smallpolished air cleaner assemblies up top. Red wiring snakes its wayto each cylinder, and nice stainless steel braided hoses are allover this engine. The intake manifold is a tri-power style with (3)2-barrel Holley carburetors topping it, and on back is a TH4003-speed automatic. A Ford 9-inch rear axle has been put on tohandle all the power.UndercarriageAll very clean and rust free with a solid drilled X framesupporting the car with ease. Floor pans and rockers are excellentas are toe kicks and inner fenders. An independent air bag frontend suspension and a 4 link with air bag rear suspension are seen,as are disc brakes all around. A clean and rust free black finishedexhaust snakes its way from the headers on the engine to the Xframe crossover where it has short exit piping aimed towards therockers for that open header roar or leave them closed and allowthe spent fossils exit out the rear via Magnaflow mufflers.Drive-AbilityA quick fire up and I was off to the test track where this carperformed flawlessly. Plenty of power, seats proved to be comfy andthe A/C was much appreciated on our rather hot and humid test driveday. This car corners well and comes to a quick stop. The steering,while non power assisted, steers easily even in tight slow movingspaces. All controls were in working order, and the engine idledwith a wonderful gurgle, awaiting the tap of your right toe!
