There is little that can be understated when one considers the 1955-57 two-seat Ford Thunderbird. Considered a classic since its introduction. The Thunderbird was marketed not as a sports car but as a personal car aimed at the man or couple not ready to give up the enjoyment of motoring for a stoic design but wanting more in terms of overall size and comfort than other similar models offered. It was a big hit, and the model in this configuration lasted three years before Ford successfully transitioned it to a four-seat platform for 1958. This example from the final year, 1957, is finished in the iconic Coral Sand with a matching hardtop and black soft top. Complimented by a stunningColonial White interior. It is a factory E-code, which denoted the new 312/271 HP V-8 engine, featuring dual inline 4-barrel carburetors atop an aluminum intake, cast-finned Thunderbird valve covers, and a large round air cleaner. Of the over 21,000 Thunderbirds built in 1957, only 1,499 are believed to have gotten this engine option. The engine here is backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission, and this car features power steering and power brakes.
