The vehicle is in excellent condition with no areas of rust or damage. The paint is very nice with no scratches or defects. The interior is in like new condition, the bright work is excellent, as is the engine compartment and trunk. The car drives and rides very nice. Mechanically the only issue in need of repair is the AM radio. Vehicle History: This GTO was restored in the early 2000's by Miller Brothers Auto Body, Gap, PA and lovingly maintained since. The restoration and subsequent maintenance include new convertible top, carpet, seats, door panels and quarter side panels replaced. Body work includes new right rear quarter panel, new windshield, new weatherstrip, re-chrome and/or replaced bright work. Recent mechanical work includes new springs, upper and lower bushing, ball joints and tie rod ends. New brakes with stainless steel brake lines, new stainless steel fuel line, new stainless steel transmission cooler line, new body mounts, new windshield wiper motor and pump, new battery, new starter, new headlight vacuum actuators At one point the engine was rebuilt and bored .0025 over. In 2012 the engine was pulled, painted, and had new rear mail seal, the transmission gaskets, seals, worn clutches and bands were replaced. Car includes matching red convertible top boot, car cover and service manual. The original spare tire is in the trunk. GTO Summary Many accounts identify the 1964 GTO as the leader in the muscle car era. The impact of the GTO still rings in the hearts and minds of enthusiasts. For 1968 the redesigned GTO was on the new A-body shell, the flowing body lines were accentuated by a revolutionary front-end treatment that continued to incorporate Pontiac's traditional split grille. The chassis was shortened however, adding width to the front and rear track increased stability. Along with a number of options and other tweaking, the 1968 models were very well received, and production increased from 81,722 the year prior, to 87,684; only 9,980 were convertibles. The redesigned GTO was welcomed by Motor Trend with its annual Car-of-the-Year honors. ENGINES 1967 offered a refined engine increasing from 389 to 400 cubic inches, in 1968 additional improvements were made to increase efficiency, largely for reduced emissions. Thus, in standard trim, the base 400 engine with the Rochester four-barrel carburetor, was rated for 350hp @ 5,000 RPM and 445 lbs ft of torque at 3,000 RPM. The engine code for this GTO is YS for when an automatic was mated to the block; this version also received a slightly milder camshaft. The vast majority of 1968 GTOs (72,793 of them) were equipped with the base engine. TRANSMISSIONS The transmission is the M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic 400, available with the Dual-Gate "his and hers" shifting arrangement. This was the standard transmission when ordering the economy 400 engine. Known by its shortened THM400 or "Turbo 400". With the 4-barrel carburetor it carried the PX code designation. DIFFERENTIAL A 10-bolt differential housing--also used in some Buick and Olds applications, leading to its "B-O-P" moniker--was employed to transfer torque to the rear wheels via an 8.2-inch ring gear. 3.55 gear ratio BRAKES Hydraulic drums with a dual-circuit master cylinder were standard. The finned drums measured 9.50 inches in diameter. The front pair was 2.50 inches wide, while the rear pair measured 2.00 inches.
