As such, Healeyalso produced a race version, the ultra-rare 100S and offeredsimilar "M LeMans" upgrades to cars sold for street use, either atthe factory or through dealerships.After building more than 10,000 BN1s in three years, Austinintroduced a new Healey, known as the BN2, for 1955. This carfeatured a four-speed transmission and was offered both in standardtrim and well as a new "hot" model, the 100M Le Mans. This modeladopted larger carburetors, a high-lift cam, higher 8.1:1compression, stiffer front suspension and a louvered hood securedby a leather strap. True factory-built 100M Le Mans CompetitionRoadsters accounted for only 640 cars, which are all tracked anddocumented by a dedicated registry and the British Motor IndustryHeritage Trust.This car is indeed one of the 640 built from factory in Le Mansspecification. Restored in the UK circa 2008, this matching number,North American specification 100M used an enjoyed a few thousandmiles. The numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four was refurbished in2005 by Denis Welch Motorsport of Staffordshire, England, andfeatures twin SU HD6 carburetors, a polished aluminum valve cover,8.1:1-compression pistons, a high-lift camshaft, and a cold-airbox. In 2015 it was used in the famed Mille Miglia Retrospective inItaly. Circa 2018 it was acquired by its most recent owner andimported to the United States.With vintage tours in mind, this 100M has been outfitted with aMonit rally tripmeter, Moto-Lite wood-rim steering wheel, thebumpers have been removed and replaced with rear bumperettes, Lucasfront driving lamps have been fitted and a Denis Welch tachometer,two fuel pumps with a switch to go to a backup if needed and firstand second gears are straight cut. Servicing during 2021 included,new Painted 15? wire wheels with two-eared knock-offs, 185/70Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, repacking the wheel bearings,replacing the brake shoes, springs, rebuilt brake master cylinder,gearbox rebuild and new clutch.
