The name had previously beenapplied to high-horsepower versions of the DB six-cylinder cars. Inthe V8s case, Vantage tune meant maximum horsepower was raised toaround 375 bhp. The V8 Vantage was readily distinguishable from thestandard production V8 by its blocked-off bonnet scoop, frontgrille blanking plate, front spoiler air dam and boot lidspoiler.Produced to satisfy demands from the USA, the V8 Volante"convertible" had debuted in 1978, but it was not until 1986 thatit became available in Vantage specification, which by this timemeant around 400+ bhp and 432 bhp in optional X-pack enginespecification. In this particular V8 Vantage Volantes case, it hasbeen uprated by R.S. Williams Ltd. 7.0 Liter Big Bore specificationwhich increases the already extremely potent performer to 500+ bhpand an equal amount of torque, which surely makes this one of theultimate supercar convertibles the world had and has offered to thepublic. A total of 166 Vantage Volantes on both RHD and LHD hadbeen completed by the end of production in December 1989. Not onlypotent and luxurious in English bespoke fashion, but also extremelyrare.This superb V8 Vantage Volante was originally manufactured inleft-hand drive configuration and sold new in July 1989. AstonMartin Works documentation has confirmed that in December 1989 thecar returned to Newport Pagnell and was converted from LHD toRHD.
