Harmony is a very beautiful, 16.2hh, 12 year old percheron x paint mare. She is sorrel and white with a symmetrical white blaze and four high socks. Harmony is an ex-PMU Production Line mare. She is very smart, extremely sweet and affectionate. With my experience dealing with rescues, I am familiar with the length of time it takes to rehabilitate emotionally and/or physically abused horses. Harmony has been an exception to the rule. It typically takes one very brief training session for her to understand what is required and to happily accept what is asked of her. For example, the first time I went to fly spray her, she was terrified and reacted by trying to run backwards. Within 5 -10 minutes of showing her it was not an issue, she no longer makes a fuss. The first time I went to put her bridle on, she tried to run away. I bridled her a couple of times in her stall and now she accepts a bridle without the slightest issue. She was terrified of the noise of the velcro on our wraps and would jump away. After a few minutes, she stood quietly as we repeatedly ripped the velcro. She gladly walked on a sheet of tarpaulin without any hesitation. I took her out on a trail ride and she did not spook at anything. In fact, when the lead horse got a little anxious at something in the bushes, Harmony just quietly walked into the lead and calmly walked past the obstacle. That being said, Harmony will likely need more trail rides to be totally exposed to as many sights and sounds as possible.
She has the potential to be a wonderful family horse.
She has just been professionally started under saddle and we are teaching her basic dressage training. She is beginning to understand that she must bend at the barrel and not the base of the neck. She is slowly remembering to yield from leg pressure and not wait to be dragged around with the rein. Her transitions are coming along beautifully. She actually has a lovely, big walk and trot .. she has quite a few trail miles on her now and she adores her trail rides. She is energetically forward, brave and VERY safe. Foxhunters would love this girl! Brakes are not a problem at all ... she will stop the second you ask. Obviously, she came in unmuscled and unbalanced .. so when doing arena work, she is typically going to suck back in the corners or want to stop when she feels tired. I am laying the foundation with very correct classical dressage training. I am trying to establish rhythm and regularity, longtidunal and lateral suppleness and lightness in the bridle.
Harmony is also a cute little jumper over cavalettis. She would make a confidence giving family horse, hunter, adult amateur lower level dressage (maybe up to first level), fantastic foxhunter and a great trail horse! She is a large, weight-carrying mare that is very forgiving and patient.
Harmony is not aggressive in the pasture and is definitely not alpha mare. She gets along with absolutely every horse. She loves other horses but seems to prefer the company of humans! She is a vacuum when it comes to eating! She is up to date on wormer, farrier and has her current negative coggins. She is barefoot and she has healthy, big feet.
She has no vices such as weaving, cribbing, windsucking, stall walking, kicking, biting, rearing or bucking. She does not act marish when she is in heat.
Harmony has had no history of injury or illness whilst at our barn .. and to the best of my knowledge, nothing of note with the previous owner.
