Our Client, in Gardena, is searching for a Transformer Design Engineer. The ideal candidate, under supervision, will perform transformer design (dry type and water cooled) and mechanical packaging functions as specified by customer and/or product requirements. Evaluates and integrates effective design and manufacturing practices into designs. Assignments require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performs design work upon receiving directions from Supervising Engineer or Project Engineer, outlining the product requirements along with customer specification.
Prepares design layouts and sketches required to depict design details and support design analysis when required.
Utilizes individual creativity, applies advanced CAD techniques and knowledge of practical and cost effective design methods. Dimensioning and tolerancing to ANSI Y14.5M standard.
Product support consists of bill of materials preparation, material review board and preparation of EO’s.
Assists in cost estimates and suppliers contact of designed components.
Basic knowledge of material and hardware selection, including sheet metal shop practices and tolerances to complete a design. Familiar with military and commercial standards pertaining to hardware, material and processes.
Performs original design work after receiving the design goal or problem statement, general method of processing and engineering advice on related theoretical aspects to be taken into account in the design.
Reviews and approves project documentation, change requests, etc.
Must be able to perform dimensional tolerance studies or descriptive 2D and 3D geometry analysis necessary to develop engineering drawings or similar documentation.
Performs other assignments as designated by the manager of Transformer Engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have designed dry and water cooled Transformers.
Must be proficient on AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop 3D modeling or equivalent system.
Good verbal/written communication skills are required.
Basic knowledge of material and hardware selection. Must be familiar with commercial standards pertaining to hardware, material and processes.
Must be able to perform dimensional tolerance studies or descriptive 2D and 3D geometry analysis necessary to develop engineering drawing.
Knowledge of Dimensioning and tolerancing to ANSI Y14.5M standard
Knowledge of Electrical Product Codes and Standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Engineering degree in related discipline and two years related design experience.
