Staff Engineer – Config & Release (contract role) Carlsbad/San Diego– Job ID# SESDA contract Staff Engineer is needed in the Carlsbad / San Diego area to design, build/configure and installer applications and maintain and modify those applications to keep pace with Life’s R&D Development Team direct project needs.
Expected Technologies:
InstallShield 12, InstallShield 2008, Ant, Java, Cruise Control, Perforce, Subversion, OS batch, Windows, Linux, Source Forge, HPQC, Team Track.
Engineer should be fluent in the following:
Handling development of multiple installers (InstallScript based MSI) and builds/releases for various software products.
Establishing and maintaining build process with scheduled nightly builds and repository labeling using ANT, scripts and CruiseControl for different software products.
Performs the release process for various software products.
Documenting installer design and SCM build/release process for software products.
Use of Source Forge, HPQC and Team Track a plus.
Define and document program requirements and design, test plans and test results for the most complicated applications.
Establishing and communicating installer standards to ensure continuity of applications and most efficient use of time and effort. Apply Installer and Build Design best practices to new and existing projects.
Coordinate with outside vendors when applicable in providing services and developing tests to ensure feature functionality.
Participate in the negotiation of contract rates and services.
Research, track and stay abreast of new installer and build technologies to initiate recommendations in developing installer applications and analyzing business requirements.
Actively contribute to the longer term planning for Installer/build/release methodologies. Understands Agile approach to software development.
Must be a Team Player who can work closely with other SCM Engineers; provide guidance to other Engineers/Developers; may oversee their work and the work of others in project teams when applicable.
May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Nature and Scope:
This position interacts with all levels of internal customers and some external vendors. That interaction requires excellent oral communication and customer service skills in identifying needs and implementing effective solutions that satisfy various customers. Effectiveness in this role also requires in-depth knowledge of Life’s corporate and communications strategies and relevant Installer-based application programs and programming languages. The incumbent works on problems of diverse scope and complexity requiring in-depth analysis of various factors and exercises judgment within broadly defined procedures and policies. The incumbent normally determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide direction to individuals and/or project teams.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or relevant technical certification required.
Experience Requirement:
At least eight years related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with at least five years relevant SCM/programming background. In-depth knowledge of applicable Installer-based application programs and programming languages is required. Excellent problem solving and customer service skills and attention to detail needed.
Working Conditions:
Works in an office environment. May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; frequently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
