About the JobJob Description: The Senior Tax Specialist, reporting to the Director of Accounting, has a full range of accounting and tax responsibilities relating to sales tax compliance for the Tax Department. This position interacts with various divisions and departments at the Corporate Office, Directors of Finance and General Managers at hotels, external auditors; and state and local taxing authorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Prepares tax returns and payments for assigned hotels,
* Researches and resolves inquiries concerning tax compliance;
* Works with General Managers and Operations Accounting staff to identify and resolve tax accrual issues;
* Works directly with state and local tax auditors on audits of hotels; coordinating audits for full service hotels
* Performs tax research and updates tax worksheets and calculations for assigned hotels
* The Tax Accountant also interacts with Liquor Licensing Department to ensure proper tax registration, reconcile tax clearing accounts, and perform other special projects as assigned.
* Stay abreast of latest developments, best practices, and trends in finance and other functional areas that may impact taxing
* Foster continuous improvement of the Tax Department team.
* Identify and act upon ways to improve work processes, enhance quality, productivity, and service.
* Promote strong collaborative relationships between the Tax Department team and all other units
* Develop and maintain positive relationships with property management and other key stakeholders
Job Requirements: Experience & Education
* Experience in the hospitality/lodging industry preferred
* Sales tax experience preferred
* Baccalaureate degree in accounting or finance required
Knowledge and Skills
* Strong finance and accounting skills.
* Knowledge of tax accounting best practices.
* Ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
* Ability to resolve exceptions and disputes.
* Ability to apply tax functional knowledge to support hotels
* Knowledge of standard reports and reporting practices.
* Ability to navigate through Windows applications and tools.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
* Ability to recognize and research a problem.
* Ability to communicate ideas both orally and in writing.
* Understanding of financial operations and its financial policies and practices.
* Possess end-to-end knowledge of the tax and other accounting processes.
* Collaborative; team player.
* Engages in fixing the problem.
* Highly organized and able to handle multiple priorities at any given point in time.
* Ability to understand and adjust to changing priorities, circumstances, direction, and personal styles.
* Ability to identify concerns before they become problems.
