This is a typical day as a Hallmark Retail Merchandiser. You will be assigned a hand-held computer called an INFOLink. This unit will track your time worked as well as the activities you perform each day on your service call. At the beginning of each day, you will sign in to the Walmart vendor log located at the Service Desk and log in on your INFOLink unit, read all messages and also check your shipment screen. You will proceed to the Receiving area of the store and check in with the receiving manager to see what freight has been delivered. The freight may consist of a few boxes or up to 20+ boxes during busy seasonal times, and they can weigh up to 50 lbs each. You will manually load all delivered boxes onto a cart to transport to the assigned bin space for Hallmark in the backroom. Boxes will be placed on the shelves in the bin space according to the Hallmark Service Standards. You will also transport any product needed to service the department that day to the card department in the front of the store.

In the Department, you will replenish, straighten, and track inventory of the every-day and seasonal greeting cards and specialty items which includes gift wrap, party supplies and other stationery items. You will use your INFOLink unit, to determine product placement, track inventory and determine replenishment needs. You may have to walk to areas outside of the card department to service other displays in the store. When your work is complete, you will log out of your INFOLink unit.

Upon arriving home, you must transmit the information captured on your INFOLink to report your time worked and the activities you completed on your service call. There are 2 options for the transmission of the data. You will place your INFOLink unit into a cradle that will be provided to you. The cradle must then be connected either to a phone jack that carries analog phone service (basic telephone not bundled with internet) or an open port on a wireless router that is connected to an Ethernet (high-speed) computer line. You must have one of these two options in your home in order to complete the transmission.

You will be required you to lift boxes up to 50 lbs as well as stoop, squat, walk and stand for long periods of time. You will need to interact in a professional manner with store employees, management and customers while in the store.

You will service the Walmart located at 3313 W. State Rt. 45 in Bloomington, IN. At this store, you will be working as part of a merchandising team to ensure that someone is merchandising the store every day, Monday-Sunday during the morning and early afternoon hours. Typically you will alternate work days and weekend hours with your teammate. Although hours are not guaranteed, you will work an average of 6-10 hours total per week and up to 11-15 hours weekly during seasonal peaks. You must be available to work extended hours 2 weeks prior to and the day immediately following major holidays.
