Features & Description
Hi there. I'm a 26 year old Texas native who lived in North Carolina for 20 years, and I'm back to Austin for music. I fronted the band "Blue Static" from Charlotte, NC for 6 years. We've done 2 albums and 1 tour this summer. Our response was awesome, but everyone wanted to go to different cities. I've also been a Drum n Bass producer with vinyl releases, openings for big names and whole 9, but I got back into rock as DnB became old very quickly. As a guitarist and singer, my biggest influences are Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots and Queens of the Stone Age. There are a lot of others, but those were my most common "learning materials."
I have learned production over the years from a 4-track at 12 years, to a home Drum n Bass studio at 15, to a full blown rock recording studio I built in NC that went about 4 years recently.
My intent, is to find a place very soon I can set up all my recording gear once again for the purpose of writing while producing, sort of like the "Trent Reznor Strategy." Basically, I've got good gear to play on live, and I want nothing less, but with my gear and software, I can plug 2 guitars, a bass, and an electric drum set into my interface and have a damn near "finished" sounding monitor mix through studio monitors, keeping it quiet enough not to get the cops called, and record it all! I do like to go back and mic a true tube amp, record "perfect" vocals once lyrics and melodies are completely decided, and if possible, mic up a real drum kit, but I'm fairly confident that I can make some great "real sounding" drums, triggered by a nice kit with software. I did Drum n Bass for god's sake!!! If I find a HOUSE to live in where volume isn't a problem, then I'd probably stick to real drums, but I like the idea of having a "Turn power on, record, and play" writing/production environment.
So I'm seeking other guitarist, bassist, drums, possibly keys and anyone who sings, to jam with on tape. We bring ideas in, we jam on them, take the best ones and groove till we've captured "a moment in the vibe," or whatever u want to call those great moments, then we expand and build around them.
I've done work like this for a long time, and all it really takes is people who respect each other musically, and can get lost in an improvised jam, and "anticipate" one another's changes. This is a perfect scenario that is hard to find, but with patience most good players can build that among each other.
So if you're interested in meeting for a jam session or just hang out and talk music, I'd love to hear from you! I don't know many people here in Austin and would like to be supportive to all musicians here.
To hear my former band, go here: http://myspace.com/bluestatic there should be 5 or 6 tracks on there(Jimi Dharma was my "stage name"). I've also got lots of cd's to give out for anyone who wants them.
Well, I'm happy to be here in Austin, and I hope to hear from you!
