Job title: Engineering Manager, Customer and Product Support
Fundamentals:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the achievement of the qualitative and quantitative objectives in the business strategy 2010 - 2015, with the following responsibilities:
• Take Ownership of all work streams and product development activities related to the engineering customer product support functions for product lines.
• Develop, maintain, and report out on all product support work streams.
• Act as design resource, oversight, and technical resource for all product development activities related to product line enhancement, extensions, upgrades, and cost reductions, for the enterprise.
Provide Leadership To:
• Product support work streams
• Product line development related to line maintenance, enhancement, and extensions.
• On site management supervision to all engineering resources located in the Phoenix, AZ facility.
• Manage budgeting related to the engineering resources in Phoenix, AZ.
• Realize Quantitative Targets:
• Release at least one product upgrade or enhancement per quarter.
• Maintain agreed upon customer performance rating from internal and external surveys.
• Create agreed upon yearly cost reduction while maintaining or improving quality.
• Sales as outlined in the Yearly Business Plan and annual targets;
• Financial budget as outlined in the Yearly Business Plan and annual targets.
Realize Qualitative Targets:
• Development of products, plans and strategies to achieve targeted product and market share position.
• Evaluation of changing customer needs and competitive pressures and taking action for the development of tools and product to best serve customer requirements.
• Development of staff to achieve world class levels of customer service.
• Maintenance and expansion of, an environment which motivates employees to achieve high quantitative and qualitative targets.
• Fostering of a company culture of learning and personal responsibility with employee accountability for their work with their customers and fellow employees.
• Promotion of close co-operation between functional areas and multiple business locations. Drive the technology input in regular business meetings between sales managers, product managers, and engineering.
The Position:
• The Engineering Manager CP&S is part of the Engineering Team and reports to the Vice President

• are fully applicable and all activities must be directed toward achieving the goals outlined in these strategies.
Targets and goals:
• Annual targets, periodic targets and qualitative goals to be agreed upon with the VP Engineering.
• An assessment of targets and goals will be carried out jointly at least every six months. The reasons for any deviations from target figures will be analyzed, control measures instituted and corrections to target figures made if necessary.
M I N I M U M J O B R E Q U I R E M E N T S:
• Ten years of proven track record in design and specification of sheet metal structures, door and access related products for the construction industry, motors controls, control stations, sensing elements. Preference given to those with experience in the door, access control, or actuation industries.
• A minimum of five years in a role managing technical resources with quantifiable results. Experience hiring and developing a world class organization.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with minimum of seven years experience in a related manufacturing enterprise. PE license highly desirable. Advanced degrees given preference.
• Experience with management of product development and application engineering resources. Can operate comfortably at all level of the organization from shop floor to president. Hands on and not afraid to get involved in solving day to day and customer problems.
• Previous experience in Six Sigma/ Lean manufacturing, design for manufacturability, and/or is a certified Green/Blackbelt.
• Experience managing outside contract resources, interfacing with international suppliers, and working cooperatively with marketing and sales to drive organic growth strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to interface with distribution partners and end users to trouble shoot and fix field issues in a manner that is value added to the customer. Ability to manage multiple demands and priorities.
• Work and promotional history that demonstrates ego, drive, empathy, and leadership qualities consistent with the qualitative goals described above.
• Fluent in English. Preference given to conversational Spanish or other second language.
• Preference given to local candidates (Phoenix metro area)
