GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Economic Development Coordinator reports directly to the City’s Economic Development Manager and will provide assistance in the development and implementation of strategies to increase the number of new businesses and industries in North Port. This position will also assist in developing partnerships with existing North Port businesses and industries.DUTIES: Collects demographic, geographical, economic and other related data about the City; investigates labor supply, transportation utilities, financing and other requirements for the establishment of new businesses and industry. Coordinates and conducts studies and surveys. Prepares promotional materials and makes presentations to promote the City and surrounding area to existing and prospective businesses. Reviews, prepares and /or submits a variety of reports and documents to be used in publicizing the advantages of locating in or visiting the City. Periodically serves as liaison among the various community, regional and state committees related to economic development. Attends meetings for the purposes of explaining and advising on economic development projects and area demographics. Assists with the preparation of grant applications and the administration of grants related to economic development. Assists with various administrative functions related to meetings of the City’s economic development boards and task forces. Prepares and monitors the Economic Development Division budget. Evaluates and provides follow-up to inquiries related to economic development; must be able to provide excellent customer service. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including City-directed work assignments in the event of a declared emergency.)
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and standards of economic development pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities. Ability to collect and analyze research data. Ability to learn the demographic profile and available resources of the City. Skilled in business solicitation, industrial promotion and public relations. Ability to make public presentations clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, business or public administration, economics, marketing, finance, or a related field, plus four (4) years of progressively responsible economic development or related experience. (A comparable amount of training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire.
PAY GRADE: 614
HOURLY SALARY: $22.3178 – $32.8632
ANNUAL SALARY: $46,421.02 - $68,355.46
