This unique antique wood, queen size bed , was built from virgin timbers reclaimed from 4 different barns built in the 18th century. I have been tearing down barns for many years. The barns were all located in Indiana. There are 7 different woods laminated together that showcase the incredible grain pattern. Wood used include Beech, Extinct Rock Elm, Hickory, Poplar, White Oak , Walnut and Quarter Sawn Sycamore. It is pegged together like the barns were using a mortise and tenon contruction. It completely breaks down for easy shipping and or moving. There no metal fasterners! The finish is museum quality with 5 hand rubbed coats of oil finished with soft luster wax. This is a show piece and will certainly become an heirloom to be handed down for generations to come. The picture of the barns are included and have all the information pertaining to age, location and what wood was used from each barn. The barn in the lower left hand corner was built in 1802. Abe Lincoln gave a speech in this barn before he was president and it was the first christian gathering place in the state of Indiana.
These barns were built by the settlers and aged by nature. The wood was hand cut by the pioneers whose very existence was tied to the life of the trees and land. This 100 to 400 year old wood is endangered by bulldozers making way for progress. It is my goal to save our history so it can be enjoyed by those who appreciate its beauty.
