Features & Description

This will be a great project for someone. There is also a picture of what it could look like when restored. I say this is a 1947 vertical twin Indian Scout, and I know a lot of you out there will argue with me and say it's a '49, You’ll say, they came out in '49. You'll all be right, however, The scouts were introduced to the public in early 1949, but I believe this was a prototype from Torque and Indian, to Jack Milne. This is why I believe it's a '47: My father worked for Jack Milne (world champion speedway rider) after the war in Jack's motorcycle shop, “Milne Brothers Motorcycle Shop, later Milne Bros. World of Wheels” in Pasadena CA .soon becoming the general manager of the motor cycle shop. Anyway, he told me that Jack was always getting prototypes, free-bees, and all sorts of goodies all of the time, because of his fame. Dad said he bought the Indian in early '48 and it was a year or two old at that time. The original pink says "First sold in 1945, First Title 1947" My entire life my Dad said the Indian and I were both 47's (coincidentally I was born in 1947) Engine and frame #s match 2491754 and should mean Indian 249 series, #1754 out of the first batch. If you don't who Jack Milne was, or just want to see some more indian scouts, then visit.

http://www.williamsenterprises.com/excelsior.htm While ridding this bike when I was in high school, I burnt a valve, you do the math, it was parked in the garage and not even looked at for several years. Dad took it apart ordered the valve and never put it back together, as he took ill. I also believe the clutch is missing. Dad has since pasted away, and he was the mechanic, and I have lost most of my sight, now legally blind, can't rebuild, can't ride. Call if you want to talk about this bike, I have a toll free # 1.866.823.5119 Buyer is responsible to pick up or get shipping I'm in Saint Stephen, SC I also have the original owners manual / repair book. I can also get more pictures for serious buyers.
