Runs Good, Fun to Drive! It's original color was Blue, it is now White, with some fading on the engine trunk lid. The black top is in superb condition. 1972 Karmann Ghia for sale by original owner purchased in Columbus Ohio new in 1972, the Ghia has been in California since 1973 and garaged it's whole life. There is no rust anywhere on the Ghia and recently had the motor rebuilt. Approx 700 miles on the rebuild have all receipts for work done, the motor rebuild was $4300.00. New carb and labor was $700.00. New brakes last summer all the way around. Other than the wheels, top redone and the shifter knob the car is 100% original. 1600 Motor The driver seat has hole in it from a spring and the dash has a crack down the center, carpeting will need to be replaced and as mentioned some interior restoration. Paint is excellent and recent. Original color on the Ghia was British Racing Green but it has been repainted red twice in the past 20 years and most recently in July of 2004. Up for sale is a nice Karmman Ghia coupe. This is a 1974, the last year they made Karmann Ghias, so it has collector's value right there. It starts and runs good. The clutch and the transmission work fine with no slipping. All 4 tires are in good shape with plenty of tread. Within the past year, the following new parts have been installed: New front brake pads and lines, new spark plug cables and plugs, electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump, fuel tank sender guage, headlight switch, front seat covers (they need to be stapled down), glove compartment, and rear tail light lenses and seals. It has a Blaupunkt Am/Fm radio that works (cassette player does not work). The paint is fair. There are some defects in it and surface rust on the engine hood and along the rockers, but no holes. The pans are solid with no holes. The interior is in pretty decent shape. It won't take much to get this one into 100% condition. The only thing thast don't work are the horn and the back up lights. New baby means I have to sell my old baby my 69 Ghia is for sale! I bought this 5 years ago to use as a fun run around. I've had mechanical work done to it, including: * New generator * New fuel pump * New spark plugs/cables * New points * Carb rebuild, several times! * New fuel hoses & filter * New fuel line, front to back * New clutch * New voltage regulartor * New exhaust & tailpipes * New left heat exchanger (I have the right one, just not fitted) * New front brake calipers, pads and disks * Replaced front spindles (previous owner had silly lowered spindles) I've also had the floorpans replaced 4 years ago. The interior needs replacing, and it requires some bodywork and paint. The nose has never been hit, but there is some rust underneath that needs attention. Ten years, three states, two children, a divorce, and countless hours have resulted in the complete restoration of this 1965 Karmann Ghia coupe. The majority of work was completed by an avid VW enthusiast with over 30 years experience restoring air cooled Volkswagens. The goal was to honor the original beauty and simplicity of the Karmann Ghia. The original car was a solid, complete, and worthy starting point by Ghia standards. It was a western car (Oregon/Nevada) that appeared to represet the stated milage on the odometer (63,500), but also did not appear to spend much time in covered storage. I would describe this as a sane, tasteful, and accurate restoration of a very nice car without the anxiety of duplicating NOS standards. This car can be driven, admired, and enjoyed. All the typical stuff was done. Original parts were reconditioned as able and new or reproduction parts purchased when needed. Up for sale is my 74. Purchased 9/2008 from a couple in Milpitas, CA. They were the second owners. Original owner was based in Brentwood, CA. Body: Not original paint, but original saturn yellow color. 8/10. Paint snapped back quite a bit when I took the clay bar to it. Clean body with only minor imperfections. As far as I can tell the nose, front fenders, and doors havent had any body repairs at all. Rear passenger fender looks to have been reworked at one time. Battery half of engine compartment needs attention. Small hole below the battery. All glass VW. New rear bumper brackets and re-chromed bumper. Interior: Headliner and carpet were both replaced previous to my purchase. Probably 6/10. I had the seats redone locally with TMI covers. Door and rear panels as well. Dash clean with no cracks. Car came with an aftermarket radio which I removed. Reworked the dash for stock AM Sapphire. Drivetrain: Original Solex 34/3 carb. Dual port. All smog equipment intact. New EGR filter.
