I have owned this car for about 16 months. The car had a new clutch and front wheel bearing replaced and runs very strong. The only issue with the car is the power sunroof doesn't open on its own. The drive motor works, but I believe a gear might be stripped out. The engine is a 2.5 liter V6, putting out 200 hp and 169 ft-lb of torque. It also has a 5 speed manual transmission, leather, A/C, cruise, tilt, power windows, power locks, driver and passenger airbags, ABS, Pioneer CD player, and has never been smoked in. Mileage is 133XXX. I will be glad to provide more pics upon request. There are some dings, dents, and nicks in the paint, but no rust. The body condition is fair, but the previous owner or owners must not have been very meticulous. The car has been cared for since I have owned it and has not been abused or driven hard. Hi All! This is a 1998 Ford Contour with about 152,000 miles on it. It has new tires and the inspection is good until May 2010. It runs well and drives clean. The engine and transmission are very sound. This car is being sold AS-IS. I'm a college student that lives on campus and I don't need the car anymore but I could use the cash. The parts it needs are as follows: -Two new front end tie-rods. -Front right wheel bearing. -Front and Rear Struts and Shocks. -New oil-pan. -Four-wheel alignment. -Frame patchwork and whatever parts are involved with the senarios below. (Here are things I never got around to fixing due to lack of time and school. These things don't work: The right windshield sprayer, The A/C, The Drivers window doesn't go down, The emergency-break, and the temperature gauge. 1998 Ford Contour in good condition but will need some work. This car has been in our family for several years so I have some knowledge of its history. It was first bought by my niece about 6 years ago. She sold it to me about 2 years ago. The engine light came on shortly after I got it and the computer code showed that it was having a torque converter problem. The car had always had an occasional fluttering that would only show up when you reached highway speeds and only for a few miles, then it would drive normal. It still does this today. The problem is that the car won't pass California smog because of the torque converter. This car has type 2 smog which means if the check engine light comes on for any reason, even it's not related to smog emissions, it will still fail. I checked with a transmission shop and the mechanic said this was the lock down function of the torque converter. The fluttering was the converter trying to lock.
