The Saturn Sky, which debuted for the 2007 model year, shares the same Kappa platform the Pontiac Solstice has been using for the past two years. Standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, remote keyless entry, and the usual power accoutrements separate the Sky from the Solstice, as does an added layer to the cloth convertible top for more noise attenuation, and a revised suspension.

In base form, GM's 2.4L Ecotec I4 uses variable valve timing to produce 173 hp. The Red Line trim can be ordered for $29,240 (a $4,200 premium), and it includes a 260-hp 2.0L turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder engine making 260 horsepower. Both engines can be mated to either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission (a $925 option).

The Sky Red Line, aimed at performance enthusiasts also includes a limited slip 3.73 rear axle, performance-oriented suspension tuning, more aggressive performance tires, polished wheels, a high flow stainless exhaust system with dual outlets, and unique Red Line specific exterior and interior trim pieces.

All in all, the Sky offers great looks, plenty of comfort and convenience features, and just enough space for a weekend getaway for two. Top it all off with an unbeatable fun-per-dollar quotient, and Saturn's first convertible seems to be off to a great start.
The Saturn Sky, new for 2007, has plenty of changes for 2008. With standard limited slip differential and StabiliTrak electronic stability control the 2008 Sky makes for an easier ride. For comfort and style the 08 Sky now comes with a standard driver's seat power height adjuster, CD player with speed compensated volume control, XM satellite radio and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The Saturn Sky was a new model for the 2007 model year, but it will take much longer than a year for the styling impact of the Sky Saturn to diminish. Reviews read by TheCarConnection.com simply rave about the exterior of the 2008 Saturn Sky, which is about as dramatically styled as any mass-produced vehicle on the road today.

The 2008 Saturn Sky comes in two available trims, which Edmunds says are "base and Red Line models," but the exterior of both is largely the same. That exterior receives lots of love from reviewers; Kelley Blue Book says "GM's designers knocked the styling right out of the park," gushing that the 2008 Saturn Sky simply "looks great." Cars.com agrees, claiming that the Saturn Sky's "daring, more angular design inspires frequent rubber-necking and mouth-breathing." Car and Driver reports that the exterior features "forward-canted side vents, faux hood vents, multiple grille openings with dashes of chrome, and a rear undertray with incorporated backup light." Cars.com adds that the Saturn Sky "comes complete, with few optional adornments" aside from the "chromed versions of the 18-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler that is so superfluous it appears in almost none of Saturn's marketing photos." Perhaps the most common description of the Sky Saturn in reviews read by TheCarConnection.com is that the car features "mini-Corvette styling," in the words of Car and Driver.
