2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor Review

Mitsubishi SUVs have traditionally been truck-based and very off-road worthy, but the 2007 Endeavor is a crossover vehicle that is based on the award-winning Galant sedan. So instead of a jacked-up chassis with a rough ride, the Endeavor delivers remarkably smooth trips for a mid-size SUV.

It makes a bold styling statement, with its strong, masculine front end. The interior styling also moves into some new territory. The center console has the look of a high-end stereo with its faux brushed aluminum finish, flanked by conspicuous vents.

The Endeavor's 3.8L V6 puts out a hefty 225 horsepower and a very healthy 255 ft-lbs of torque, and is matched with a four-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel independent suspension is standard, as is ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, air bags all around, and traction control. Either front-wheel or all-wheel drive is available. Mix in two levels of trim (LS and SE) and you can choose among four different price points. The LS FWD starts at $26,999 and the SE AWD comes in just under $31,000.

Base SEs are equipped with alloy wheels, all-season tires, power mirrors, power windows and locks with keyless entry, air conditioning, an alarm system, cruise control, and a CD player. The SE trim adds plenty of luxury for only $1,750. Some of the more desirable items are a Rockford premium audio system, a full-size spare wheel, heated leather seats, heated mirrors, Sirius satellite radio, and a transmission cooler to assist in towing applications. Additional options on the Endeavor include a navigation system and a sunroof.

We found the seats to be very comfortable and the interior storage plentiful. With 106.7 cubic feet of passenger volume, the Endeavor has ample room for five occupants. You can store up to 40 cubic feet of items behind the rear seat, or fold it down for nearly 77 cubic feet of area. Not only is the cargo area large, but it is outfitted with tie downs.

At 4,079 pounds, the Endeavor's acceleration was downright spiritedly. We found the suspension was tuned for a remarkably smooth ride.
The Mitsubishi Endeavor carries on for 2007 largely unchanged. All models now come standard with head curtain air bags. The all-wheel-drive models get standard stability control. Where last year the trim levels were LS and Limited, for 2007 buyers choose between LS and SE guises. see less
