2007 Mercury Milan Review

The 2007 Mercury Milan is based on the same platform as the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It offers buyers looking for a high-quality family sedan a number of choices. It can be had in two trim levels, with a four- or six-cylinder engine, and as a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle.

The $18,905 Milan uses a 160-horsepower 2.3L engine, which can be had with either a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. All Milans carry such important safety equipment as head curtain and side air bags, and antilock brakes.

If you move up to the $20,905 Milan Premier you get a load of extra equipment. The steering wheel, which already contains the audio and cruise controls, gets a comfy leather wrapping. The standard air conditioning is upgraded to automatic climate control. Fog lights help to dress up the Milan's distinctive front end. The interior rearview mirror is electrochromatic, and the headlights can be set to go on and off based on whether it is dark or light.

If you'd like more power with your luxury, step up to $21,935 V6 Milan. It uses a 221 horsepower V6 engine and gets a six-speed automatic transmission. We found this engine selection to be more in keeping with the Milan's luxuriously appointed interior. It also comes standard with traction control. Now you also have the choice of remaining with front-wheel drive, or opting for the $23,785 Milan AWD. This is the way to go if you live in the Snow Belt.

Where the Milan excels is in the simple business of transporting four or five adults who value the traditional Mercury strengths: quiet comfort and luxury. The interior is nicely done, and the back seat is able to transport three full size adults with no complaints.

The ride/handling equation has been nicely solved in the Milan. As you'd expect the ride is not sports car firm, but more on the plush side of the scale. Yet we found the Milan's ability to carve through corners a pleasant revelation.

Options include a Wales mahogany Wood Appearance Package and a number of different audio systems.
Despite being introduced in 2006, Mercury has upped the ante for the 2007 Milan in the safety area. Both head curtain and side air bags have been added as standard equipment for 2007. Also, four-wheel anti-lock brakes are standard instead of being optional equipment, and V6 models come with traction control. Premier models get automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and fog lamps. see less
