The 2007 Mercedes-Benz C Class is available in three different engines-designated by C230, C280, and C350-and in two different sub-models, Sport and Luxury. The C230 is only available in Sport guise, while the other two models are available either way.

The C230 is powered by a 201-horsepower, 2.5L V6 engine, while the C280 comes with a 228-horsepower, 3.0L V6 and the C350 gets a 268-horsepower, 3.5L version of the same V6 family. Each of the V6 engines have aluminum construction and four valves per cylinder, with variable valve timing for good response throughout the rev range. The C230 Sport and C350 Sport come with a six-speed manual transmission; a seven-speed automatic is optional on those and standard on Luxury models.

In 2006, Mercedes-Benz's compact C-Class was reduced to an all-sedan line; the station wagon was dropped. For 2007, the high-performance C55 AMG has also been deleted, but some formerly AMG-specific parts -- including a rear spoiler, dual exhaust tips and Birdseye maple interior trim -- are now included on regular sedans with the optional Sport package. Three versions of the rear-drive C-Class are available -- C230, C280, and C350. The C280 comes powered by a 2.5-liter V-6 that generates 201 horsepower, while the C280 gets a 3.0-liter V-6 that nets 228-horsepower; the top C350 is fitted with a 3.5-liter V-6 that delivers 268 horsepower. For 2007, the C230's V-6 is offered with E85/flex-fuel capability and the C280 comes standard with dual power front seats and steering column with memory. Active front head restraints designed to help reduce whiplash injuries are also standard -- as are four-wheel-disc brakes with ABS and Brake Assist, Automatic Slip Control, Electronic Stability Program, and front-seat side-impact and side-curtain airbags. Options include a navigation system, premium Harmon Kardon audio system, xenon high-intensity headlamps, and an interface that allows an Apple iPod MP3 player to integrate with the car's audio system. The player is operated via steering-wheel controls and the multifunction display in the car's instrument cluster.
