2007 Honda Pilot Review

The Honda Pilot is frequently found on critics' short lists for mid-size SUVs, and the 2007 model is expected to be more of the same. Powered by a 3.5L V6 that makes 244 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, the engine features four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, and (on the two-wheel-drive models) variable cylinder management. The engine is paired with a smooth-shifting five-speed automatic.

The Pilot has plenty of space inside: seating for eight, 16.3 cubic feet behind the third row of seats, 48.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row folded. With the lift of two levers, the second row folds down to provide more than 90 cubic feet. Around town and on the highway, the Pilot provides a comfortable and surprisingly quiet ride. Eight inches of ground clearance and Honda's available VTM-4 four-wheel drive system allow the Pilot to navigate through snow if needed.

Honda packs plenty of safety devices into every Pilot. Dual-stage front air bags, driver's and front passenger side air bags, and all-row curtain bags with a rollover sensor are all standard. A tire pressure monitor system, anti-lock brakes, and vehicle stability assist are standard equipment as well. Perhaps most importantly, the Pilot is very nimble for a vehicle this size.

The Pilot is offered three different trims. The LX is equipped with air conditioning, a CD player, power locks, and power windows. Alloy wheels, roof rails, fog lights, power mirrors, a power driver seat, audio controls on the steering wheel, HomeLink, a security system, front and rear automatic climate control, and a cassette player and six-disc CD changer are all added to the EX trim. At the top of the heap is the EXL, with a power moonroof, heated mirrors, leather interior, and XM satellite radio. A rear entertainment system and a navigation system are optional items on the EXL as well.

Prices start at $27,095 for a 2WD Pilot LX, and range up to $35,445 for a 4WD EXL with navigation, which is one of the best in the business.
The Pilot got some big changes for 2006 and the CR-V was completely redesigned for 2007, so it is no surprise that the only changes to the Pilot for 2007 are new colors. Nimbus Gray Metallic, Aberdeen Green Metallic, Dark Cherry Pearl, and Formal Black have all been added to the palette. see less
