Review:
Ford's full-size, seven-passenger minivan soldiers on into 2007 with minimal changes. A third-row bench seat is now standard and Panic Brake Assist is now available on models ordered with stability control. Six new interior color choices are available as well -- Windveil Blue Clearcoat, Alloy Clearcoat Metallic, Dune Pearl Clearcoat Metallic, Pewter Clearcoat Metallic, Light Tundra Clearcoat, and Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic. Otherwise, the Freestar is a carryover. It comes in base SE, SEL, and Limited trim lines, with a standard 3.9 liter V-6 engine producing 194 horsepower. A larger, 201-horsepower 4.2-liter V-6 is available optionally in base models and standard on Limited trims. A four-speed automatic is standard with either engine. All Freestars are front-wheel drive. The Freestar offers 27.4 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third-row seat. When the third-row seat is stowed in the floor and the second-row seats are removed, the rear cargo area expands to 135.7 cubic feet and can accommodate large sheets of work material. The Freestar's standard third-row Tailgate Bench Seat can also be placed in a rearward-facing position for use during picnic or tailgating activities. Four-wheel-disc brakes with anti-lock brakes are standard; curtain airbags can be ordered optionally. Seventeen-inch rims, a DVD entertainment system, and reverse back-up system may also be ordered.
