2007 Chevrolet Express Review

The 2007 Chevrolet Express passenger van is available in two different lengths (a standard 135-inch wheelbase or a long-body 155-inch wheelbase) and in two levels of duty (the standard 1500 and the heavy-duty 3500). The 1500 is only offered in the shorter wheelbase, but the 3500 is offered with either length, with the longer variant called the EXT.

The 1500 now comes with a standard 5.3L Vortec 5300 V8, making 295 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque; a flex-fuel, E85-compatible version of the 3500 models step up to the 6.0L Vortec 6000 V8, which produces 300 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque.

All Express models get a four-speed automatic transmission with special tow/haul mode for a more predictable shift pattern when towing or carrying a heavy load. When properly equipped, the Express can tow up to 7,400 pounds, which makes it especially attractive to those with boats or camper-trailers.

An all-wheel drive system is available on the 1500 model but not available on the 3500. The Stabilitrak stability control system, which helps maintain control on slippery roads or in abrupt maneuvers, is standard on the 3500 but not available on the 1500. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, with dynamic rear proportioning for confident braking even when fully loaded, are included with all Express vans.

Eight-passenger seating, with three rows and front bucket seats, is standard with the shorter wheelbase while the longer-wheelbase 3500 version comes with twelve-passenger seating.

The LT Preferred Equipment Group bundles popular options like power windows and locks, cruise control, tilt steering, remote keyless entry, and upgraded upholstery. Standouts among other options include a 60/40-split driver's door arrangement (with the 135-inch wheelbase), which allows access to the second row of seats from the driver's side of the vehicle, complements the passenger-side sliding door, and helps ease entry or loading.

Chevrolet dealers also offer a Conversion Van package for the Express. These can add upgrades such as DVD players, TV receivers, central air conditioning, and slide-out sleeper seating.
For 2007, the formerly optional 295-horsepower Vortec 5300 V8 is now included on standard-duty Chevy Express 1500 passenger van models. The 5300 engine may now also be ordered with E85 flex-fuel capability. see less
