The Chevy Equinox gets some serious upgrades for 2007, making it even more competitive in the small SUV market. Where some SUVs get by with a four-cylinder engine, the Equinox employs a 3.4L V6 built by General Motors. This motor makes 185 horsepower at 5,200 rpms, and 210 lb-ft of torque. It is backed up by a five speed automatic transmission.

The Equinox is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and in LS or LT guises. The LS includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock disc brakes at all four wheels. A roof spoiler adds a jaunty note and helps to keep the back window cleaner. Air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, keyless remote entry, automatic headlights, and a roof rack are all standard equipment, too.

The compact crossover Equinox shares platforms and certain components with both the Saturn Vue and the Pontiac Torrent. For 2007, all trims get a revised instrument cluster and instrument panel center stack, StabiliTrak stability control is now standard equipment, along with a tire pressure monitoring system and three new exterior colors -- Granite Gray Metallic, Deep Ruby Metallic, and Silverstone Metallic. In addition, remote start is now available. The Equinox comes in LS and LT trims and either front- or all-wheel drive. The standard engine is a 3.4-liter V-6 rated at 185 horsepower and teamed with a standard five-speed automatic transmission. MacPherson struts at the front wheels, combined with an independent four-link rear suspension with coil springs in the rear contribute to the vehicle's car-like ride and handling characteristics. To maximize either rear-passenger room or cargo space, the back seat can adjust as much as eight inches fore and aft. The rear seat and front passenger's seat can also be folded flat to further expand its carrying abilities. A versatile height-adjustable cargo panel can function as a shelf, security cover, or a picnic table. Curtain airbags, DVD entertainment system and audio system upgrades are among the major options.
