An all-new 402-horsepower, 6.2L aluminum V8 exclusively powers the Escalade. The new engine incorporates variable valve timing to allow both low-rev torque and high-rev passing power, and it's hooked up to a new six-speed automatic transmission with a wide ratio to balance performance and fuel efficiency.

A new, stronger boxed frame is shared with GM's other full-size SUVs and brings increased strength and stiffness, for a more controlled ride and improved handling.

The Escalade gets extra stopping power as well, with larger, stronger disc brakes on all four wheels and improved Bosch anti-lock braking. The luxury version of the Chevrolet Tahoe full-size SUV comes as a standard-length SUV, as the longer ESV, and as the EXT, which is an SUV/pickup truck combination that shares its configuration with the Chevrolet Avalanche. All versions have been completely revised for 2007. In addition to updated exterior and interiors and a new, wider-track chassis and improved suspension system, all '07 Escalade variants are now powered by a standard 6.2-liter, 403-horsepower V-8 engine teamed with a new six-speed automatic transmission. Both rear- and all-wheel drive are available, with seating capacity for seven in the ESV, which is 21 inches longer than the standard Escalade. The EXT models offer a removable Midgate system that enables the owner to convert the EXT from a five-passenger SUV into a two-passenger pickup with nine feet of protected and secured storage. The Midgate, located behind the rear seat, can be folded into the cabin -- expanding the cargo area from 5' to 8', for a total of 101 cubic feet of space. A lockable standard tonneau cover protects items in the cargo bed, or can be removed entirely for added space. Head-curtain side airbags with rollover protection for all rows are standard, as are stability control, anti-lock brakes, a power rear liftgate, power fold-and-tumble second-row seats, and 18-inch rims. Available equipment includes 22-inch rims, an available eight-inch touch-screen navigation system, Bose 5.1 Digital Surround Sound system and power-actuated running boards. Max tow rating is 7800 lb when properly equipped.
