Review:
Grand Prix
The muscularly
styled mid-size Pontiac Grand Prix, which shares platforms and powertrains with
the new Buick Lacrosse, remains virtually unchanged for 2005. It's powered in
its standard form General Motors' longstanding 200-horsepower 3.8-liter V6
engine, while the top GTP model offers a supercharged 3.8 that generates a
brisker 260 horsepower, and includes an enhanced traction control system. A
four-speed automatic transmission is standard with both powertrains. An optional
Competition Group (Comp G) for the GTP includes a high-performance version of
GM's StabiliTrak stability system and a racing-inspired TAPshift (Touch
Activated Power) that allows drivers to change gears on the automatic
transmission manually via paddles located on the steering wheel, Formula-One
racing style.
