Review:
Mariner
Mercury adds its
own version of the same vehicle that's sold as the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute
for 2005, called Mariner. A bit more upscale than its counterparts, the Mariner
carries specific exterior styling cues, added features, unique content, and an
upgraded interior that's trimmed in woodgrain, satin aluminum, and chrome. A
153-horsepower 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine is standard, while an available
3.0-liter V-6 generates a quicker 200 horses. A four-speed automatic
transmission is included with both powerplants. A new Intelligent 4WD System is
available that automatically transfers torque from the front to the rear wheels
as needed. An optional Safety Canopy system is designed to protect occupants in
case of a rollover; front-side and side-curtain airbags are also available.
Standard features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist,
power- mirrors, locks and windows, keyless entry, a CD stereo, air conditioning
and a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel with speed control. A gas/electric
hybrid-powered version is said to be coming for the 2007 model
year.
