E-Class

2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDIA diesel-powered E320 CDI sedan is added to Mercedes' midsize E-class sedan line for 2005. The car's inline-six-cylinder engine uses common-rail direct-injection technology to generate 201 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and it comes mated to a five-speed-automatic transmission. The diesel's 0-60 mph times are claimed to be slightly quicker than with the gasoline-powered version, yet the E320 earns an EPA estimate of 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. E320 and E500 wagons joined the sedans last year, and Sport versions of the E-Class station wagon have also became available. Rear-wheel-drive models with the 5.0-liter V-8 come with a seven-speed-automatic transmission, while the 3.2-liter V-6 in the E320 includes a five-speed unit. A high-performance E55 AMG sedan with a blazing 469-horsepower supercharged V-8 continues as one of the world's quickest sedans.
