Review:
ECHO BAY, Nevada -- As our lives get more complex, the demand on our vehicles gets more diverse, and we prize those with features that do double or triple duty. While sport-utes have become popular, a lot of folks have found them lacking for the dirtier tasks but useful when the need arises to haul more than three folks.
In other parts of the world, pickups have had four doors for years and serve as family and work people-haulers as well as doing the dirty work. Nissan introduced its Frontier last year with extra doors, and the truck has been contributing to the automaker's revival. Ford has announced its full-size F-150 with a SuperCrew cab, and now Dodge is standing in the middle ground with its Quad Cab Dakota.
Today, the majority of trucks are used less for working than for hauling people, and styling rivals function in the purchase decision. The Dakota R/T combines Dodge's largest V-8, a lowered suspension, and low profile tires to enable it to handle as well as it looks. And with a throaty, free-flow exhaust, it sounds as mean as it looks.
