This is a very interesting and rare proposition for a pre-war sports car, it is a 1928 Lagonda 14/60 Semi-Sports Tourer, this is a 2 litre High Chassis car and this exact car is featured in "Lagonda Heritage" by Richard Bird, Pages 20-21. It is a great original condition and lovers of old cars in used condition will love this.

Introduced at the August 1925 Motor Show, the Lagonda 14/60 was hailed by the motoring press as "an extremely refined and smooth touring car of better than average efficiency". The Staines firm's first 2-litre model, its advanced powerplant was designed by Arthur Davidson. Boasting twin high-set camshafts, overhead valvegear and fully machined hemispherical combustion chambers, the 1954cc engine developed some 60bhp @ 3,500rpm. Further benefiting from a separately mounted four-speed manual gearbox and powerful Rubury four-wheel braking system, the 14/60 was reputedly capable of between 60mph and 70mph (depending upon the style of coachwork fitted). Riding on supple semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension, the Lagonda could seat four people in comfort thanks to its generous 10-foot 3-inch wheelbase. Almost twice the price of its 12/24 predecessor, the 14/60 remained in production until 1928 by which time it had helped establish Lagonda as one of Britain's pre-eminent sporting marques.

Among the last 14/60s made, 'YV 1621' was bought by its previous keeper, Dr P.G. Caudle, in December 1953. Understood to have covered some 35,000 miles over the next eight years but only 4,000 miles or so between 1962 and 1990, the Lagonda subsequently lay dormant until entering the previous ownership during December 2002. Judged by the seller to be in "good running order", this delightfully patinated Lagonda is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until March 2009. It is very rare to find a survivor with its original bodywork intact.

Interior:
The interior of our car is finished in Tan and it is showing plenty of age but we are not sure if it is the original. The carpets are poor or missing and it is quite rudimentary in the cabin, perfect for that work look although alternatively ripe for a retrim and recarpeting.

Exterior:
The exterior of our car is finished in traditional Dark Green and this is one of the best colours for these cars. The paint is in poor original condition with many blemishes and patches. The wheels and tyres are however, very good and the car looks superb. The wet weather gear is new, Black, and in very good condition.

Mechanical:
Our car starts and runs just fine. Everything works as it should. At some time in the past the car has been upgraded with a 3-Litre radiator and 3-Litre heavy rear axle (ratio 10 x 47) The car has done around 200 miles since being recommissioned, recent work has seen 'YV 1621' treated to "shotblasted / painted wheels, serviced brakes, new hood / tonneau cover and a renovated petrol tank" The engine was "decoked" and had its "valves ground-in" as part of a top-end overhaul carried out in 2005. The gearbox changes smoothly and there are no undue knocks or rattles anywhere and everything feels very tight.

Summary
This is a rare, beautiful, and practical sports tourer from the worlds greatest manufacturer. The car has been recently serviced with invoices to show and is ready for the next owner. The condition is great, it is ready for use and would make its next owner very proud! Prices for all Lagonda have been rising in recent years, reflecting the quality and interest in the marque, and this may be your last chance to buy a lovely original car with a great history for sensible money. I really do not expect to have this car long at this price as we are seeing fully restored 2 litre cars rocketing.

As with all our cars, come along and have a look and if you like her, drive her away!
