Overview The Consultant RN Sr serves as an internal consultant to Novant Health leadership and staff on large complex system, market, unit/institute level initiatives. The primary focus of the Consultant RN Sr is to provide partnership, direction and facilitation to leaders and teams in growth and revenue opportunities, value optimization and efficiency opportunities, and execution of high priority initiatives with a primary focus on clinical process improvement and RN workflow improvement. The Consultant RN Sr is expected to pursue her/his/their work with a high level of energy and steadfastly push self and others for results while supporting the organization in education, application of tools, methods, data collection, analysis, project facilitation, project management, mentoring and coaching junior consultants, and general leadership development in areas related to change management. The Consultant RN Sr is expected to provide primary support to system, market, unit/institute level initiatives autonomously with limited support and guidance from Internal Consulting leadership, while demonstrating the ability to mentor other consultants. Experience: Minimum five years experience in a RN role, with demonstrated experience in performance improvement activity. Significant experience managing teams/projects with significant complexity with a high degree of autonomy, required. Licensure/Certification: RN license, required. Additional skills required: Communication Leads discovery process through active listening and dialogue with customers and key stakeholders Is appropriately assertive with all levels of the organization, offering viewpoints that may be unpopular Captures, aligns, and effectively ensures agreement of expectations and objectives of engagements Adapts communication methods and messages for varying stakeholders and levels of leadership Summarizes results of analyses, assessments, group processes, etc. clearly in written and graphical presentation Delivers summary of analyses, assessment, group processes, etc. through public speaking Sees dialogue and discussion with stakeholders as an intervention and plans accordingly Creates and maintains an inspired vision of the future during all communication, linking work to system and market strategy Critical Thinking Reduces large amounts of data and information to tell a story, simplifies understanding for others, and identifies most critical information, while resisting urge for complete data to support decision making Brings creative ideas and solutions for consideration based on experience or potential feasibility Probes all viable sources for answers; can see opportunities for synergy and integration where others cannot Performs layers of analysis to reveal previously hidden insights Understands and navigates organizational and political climate Understands values and motivators of key stakeholders, and adjusts approach as needed to accelerate results Appropriately plans pace/timing of work and progress considering noncontrollable factors Leadership Provides direction and leadership to project teams, demonstrating ability to lead through influence and leveraging relationships. Functions in partnership with customer, sharing ownership and accountability for results. Is comfortable working with senior leaders in the organization in a consulting role vs. as "order taker". Embraces teambuilding and possesses interpersonal relationship skills. Negotiates varying wants vs. needs across key stakeholders, forces common understanding of objectives and approach. Acts with courage in confronting difficult situations, is energized by challenging problems and thrives in situations of risk and uncertainty. Recognizes mixed motivation across stakeholders, resistance to change, and seeks to resolve through dialogue and discovery of root cause. Manages conflict/confrontation by addressing head-on, bringing real issues to the surface and finding common ground. Provides timely, relevant, and actionable feedback to customers and colleagues from a place of compassion. Has "thick skin" and does not take conflict, negative feedback, or frustration personally but uses as learning and opportunity to accelerate results. Presents as a calming influence during times of crisis. Data Analysis Summarizes results of analyses, assessments, group processes, etc. clearly in written and graphical presentation. Delivers summary of analyses, assessment, group processes, etc. through presentation materials and public speaking. Reduces large amounts of data and information to tell a story, simplifies understanding for others, and identifies most critical information, while resisting urge for complete data to support decision making. Performs layers of quantitative and qualitative analysis to reveal previously hidden insights. Comfortable working with large datasets in Microsoft Excel. Special Conditions: Willingness to pursue professional certifications and development opportunities.
