Job Summary: Responsible for planning, development, coordination, and administration of the safety, industrial hygiene (IH) and occupational health programs for the company as directed by the Corporate Safety Manager. Ensure personnel, materials, equipment, and work environments achieve safety effectiveness and elimination or reduce the number and severity of on-the-job accidents and injuries. Essential Job Functions: Assist in the administering, and implementation of site specific safety plans for the specialty coatings and painting industry in accordance with government and client standards as requested. Establish a site safety plan, per assigned job, that comply with all required OSHA regulations. Competent knowledge and application of the principals of safety practice in the following areas: Respiratory Protection Fall Protection Confined Space Lead Abatement Hazardous Communication Industrial Hygiene Ensures that all job sites and facilities are inspected on a regular basis for any conditions that pose potential safety problems. All site visits must be documented in writing. Safety supervision of field personnel and crews during their daily job assignments. Pro-active site safety audits and applicable recommendations. Schedule, collect, and monitor IH samples. Evaluate and manage IH problems using proactive problem solving and work solutions. Ensure orientation and training of new hires & annual refresher training. Provide training and maintains accurate/complete records of all safety trainings and plans. Fall protection plan & equipment Respiratory protection plan & equipment Confined space plan and equipment Identify and apply government regulations and industry practice for IH and safety compliance. Calibration and upkeep of monitoring equipment. Safety checks of all rental equipment. Regularly review and evaluate industry specific safety methods and ensure the most current methods are being used in the workplace. Immediately correct any unsafe condition; document and advise proper chain of command. Accompany employees of all agencies conducting safety and fire audits of facilities and job sites as requested. Provide training to Project Leaders how to accompany an inspector. Ensure appropriate follow-through for any safety related infraction. Provide assistance to establish priorities and procedures to correct any safety violation. Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting all safety problems. Document all issues and corrective actions taken. Assists in preparing safety policies and procedures; implement all policies and procedures. Ensures that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met. Participates and advises the Safety Committee and maintains close communication with administration in matters of safety requiring management action. Accident and incident investigation & reporting occurring to all employees, visitors, subcontractors and others. Carefully investigates and analyzes reports from accident investigations to ascertain causes. Other Responsibilities: Trains, counsels, and advises site personnel on all safety and IH issues. While it is impossible to list every duty that may be asked of an employee, the Employer may ask that an employee do other duties as the business need arises. Ensure Qualified Fit Tester Training Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): (Education and Experience) Competent knowledge and application of the safety principals and practices listed above. Must have a broad working knowledge in the theory and practice of IH including methods, procedures, and techniques used in collecting samples and testing for health hazards common in the industrial painting business. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations for the construction industry. Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner. Must have excellent writing abilities in the preparation and delivery of safety plans, reports, training materials, investigations, and other written correspondence. Ability to effectively work with all levels of people from entry level laborers to Project Leaders, Division Managers, corporate office staff, and public officials. No less than three (3) years' experience in Safety or IH management in the construction industry. Computer proficient using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Windows, Outlook, etc.) Must be able to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision. Preferred (KSA) Qualifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Safety Professionals. OSHA 510 and 500 Certified Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field of study Three (3) years' experience in a similar position Licensed Industrial Hygienist (IH) through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene Bilingual in English and Spanish Other Requirements: Valid Driver's license, clean driving record, vehicle insurance, reliable and legal transportation. This position requires extensive travel to project sites and may require site safety presence for the entire duration of the project.
