Summary/Description:This position is part of a team focused on the development and execution of existing and novel methodologies within a swine nucleus breeding program designed to continuously improve the performance of company lines at the commercial level. This position will have specific responsibility for working in the nucleus system to support data integrity and collection processes at farrow-to-finish sites.The objective of the position is to support nucleus farm TEAMS assisting them in the capture and utilization of data as well as the adherence to processes consistent with standards that meet the needs of the company's breeding program.This will be accomplished by routine validation of on-farm data, review of our database reports and data driven audits of farm practices to maintain adherence to established protocols. The position will work closely with team members of the nucleus farms, database engineers, geneticists, technical, and production teams to design data collection processes, provide essential training, oversight, coaching, troubleshooting and general technical support to those involved with the data collection process.Duties and Responsibilities: Provide technical support to the farm team for the collection, upload and retrieval of data Participate in and provide support to the team for the development and execution of protocols for the genetic program including providing innovative ideas for improved accuracy or efficiency of current and future protocols Support the implementation of data collection processes at nucleus farms Understand protocols for data collection Understand how data is placed into the information system at the farm level Understand how data is loaded into database including automated and manual processes Work effectively as part of a team to guide the data collection and validation process Provide formal and informal training to new and current team members on data collection processes used to gather information vital to the genetic program Ensure that protocols are implemented consistently at all sites and identify opportunities for improvement in processes and maintaining consistency across farms Communicating and reiterating the vision and direction of the program and constantly improving the understanding of the teams relative to their contribution to the overall goals Creating buy-in of team members to the ideas and protocols in order to further the goals of genetic program Develop new skills as necessary to utilize the various software tools available and used in the genetic program Remain up-to-date on newly developed technologies that could enhance the company's data collection process Hold all team members accountable for successful implementation of the genetic program at the farm level Qualifications/Requirements: Must have excellent English oral and written communication skills, both from a technical and applied point of view S. degree in animal science or related field OR equivalent industry experience, M.Sc. degree preferred Ability to organize and lead teams Team player Willing to travel to all sites as needed Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel. Experience using SQL and r is a strong advantage Industry experience preferred with a solid understanding of the biological and economic aspects of commercial pork production systems Experienced in the development and implementation of data collection strategies within large nucleus, multiplier and/or commercial production systems with an ability to train, motivate and monitor external staff responsible for the long term implementation of various facets of the genetic program Team player
