Department : Oncology Job Title : Front Office Registered Nurse Reports To : Clinical Oncology Manager Job Summary : Provides clinical support to all providers, the clinical staff and patients of the Oncology Service line. Job Responsibilities: -Administer chemotherapy and/or biotherapy per MD orders -Provide patient specific education -Assist providers during medical procedures -Obtain vital signs -Review recent lab results and any incoming patient health data from outside facilities -Report any concerns to provider -Utilize multidisciplinary team to address patient specific needs -Confirm appropriate dose, route, and frequency -Confirm that medication is appropriate for patient's disease process -Monitor for adverse effects of medications -Self injection techniques for medications such as lovenox -Management of side effects of oral agents -Coumadin teaching - Pleurx Catheter management -Prepare supplies for procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, paracentesis and thoracentesis -Monitor patient post procedure to ensure they experience no adverse effects -Review discharge instructions post procedure Requirements: Education: Associates of applied science of nursing from accredited institution. Experience: Minimum of 1-year med/surg nursing experience. Licensure : NYS registration to preform duties of a registered nurse. Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy/biotherapy provider card within 6 months of employment. Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
