The Municipality of North Cowichan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities for one (1) student position working in our Operations Department on a temporary basis from approximately May 1 to August 30, 2024. If you are self-motivated, looking to take on a new challenge where you can make a difference, enjoy both responsibility and accountability, and are ready to join one of British Columbia's most inclusive and environmentally conscious municipalities, we look forward to receiving your application! Students will assist in all aspects of building and property maintenance. Tasks may include but are not limited to : forming, pouring and finishing of concrete, new and retrofit construction projects, office furniture and cubicle fabrication and setup, general roof repairs, maintenance and cleaning and assisting our Carpenter with any and all building repairs and maintenance. Preferred candidates will have experience with labour-intensive jobs, such as building maintenance, general construction, concrete finishing, painting, and use of related equipment, power tools, and machinery. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time. This position may be of interest to Civil Engineering students wanting to gain hands-on experience in related areas. Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities: Registered as a full-time, post-secondary student at an accredited institution during the current academic year (2023-2024) and returning to school full-time in the upcoming academic year (2024-2025). Proof of enrolment will be required and can be included as part of your application package. Good organization and communication skills. Independence of judgment and capability of working with minimal supervision. The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this.
